Bred by Meon Valley Stud, Caspar Netscher has now won his second Group 2 on his eighth start as a two year old. By winning the Gr. 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury, he became the first horse to follow up on his victory in Gr. 2 Gimcrack at York in August. He kept on strongly to take the Mill Reef by half a length under Kieran Fallon.
This very dependable colt is by Dutch Art out of Bella Cantata. His unraced dam is is a half-sister to high-class pair Stagecraft and Mullins Bay, and is out of high-class Bella Colora. This win takes his highly consistent race record to 3 wins, 2 seconds, 2 thirds and 1 fourth from his 8 starts since 10th May.
His trainer, Alan McCabe, is now looking towards America for the Breeders' Cup. "He thrives on racing, which is a good thing," said McCabe. "He has just had an exercise gallop really - he's not even blowing that hard. Kieren said he gave him a squeeze and he's got there in two strides; he's a good horse. We'll keep an eye on the Middle Park, but the long term plan is the Breeders' Cup".
Congratulations to all of his connections.
Meon Valley Stud had another success with one of their graduates that same day up at Ayr when Poet won the Listed race, the Doonside Cup Stakes, for trainer, Clive Cox. He took the race by four lengths, unchallenged. Poet had been a smart second to Workforce at Sandown in May in Gr. 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes.
