Sponsored by Saracen, 'From Foal to Finish - Nutrition and Veterinary Management to maximize profitability' was the theme of the TBA's Annual seminar, held at Tattersalls, Newmarket, and Newbury racecourse on consecutive days.

Over 200 people attended the two days, which focused mainly on nutrition and veterinary management. We heard from Paul Greaves, who gave an update on Weatherbys Breeding Statistics. This was followed by Dr Joe Pagan, President of Kentucky Equine Research, who spoke about 'Nutritional Strategies to Improve Reproductive Efficiency'.  Dr Bryan Waldridge, Resident Vet at Kentucky Equine Research, then looked at foal infections, Lawsonia Intracellularis and Rhodococcus Equi, as well as high-risk pregnancies and treatment for mares that haemorrhage post-foaling.

The TBA's veterinary advisors then looked at the latest news and current issues. James Crowhurst MRVCS of Newmarket Equine Hospital spoke about infectious diseases and disease control, hyperflexion ballerina syndrome and acquired flexor deformities. Andrew McGladdery MRCVS of Rossdale & Partners covered Early Pregnancy Failure and Ed Lyall MRCVS of The Arundel Equine Hospital gave an overview of Equine Abortion.

Professor Jacqui Matthews of the Moredun Research Institute presented TBA funded research into worm resistance with a talk entitled 'Small strongyles: have the worms turned?'. Dr Pagan then gave a second talk looking at 'The balancing act of growing a sound, athletic horse'.
