Diet Description

Obesity and high body condition score (>7) are predisposing factors to laminitis. Maintaining optimum body condition score in horses and ponies that are prone to putting on extra weight, means implementing a feeding regime that is low in calories but balanced with respect to vitamins, minerals and quality protein sources, as well as ensuring that there is a sensible and regular exercise plan in place.

Slim-Chaff has been formulated to be used alongside other low calorie complete feeds such as Saracen Shape-Up, Donkey Diet or Super Fibre Pencils in order to encourage chewing and saliva production. Alternatively, it can be fed on its own as a low calorie chaff, provided that you check with a qualified nutritionist that you are feeding the recommended amounts to ensure optimum provision of protein, vitamins and minerals.

Slim-Chaff is made from only the finest chopped oat straw that is cleaned and dust extracted, to ensure that it is of the highest hygienic quality. The addition of soya bean meal ensures that quality protein sources are available for cell renewal and tissue and muscle repair, which is of particular importance for horses that are recovering from laminitis or are in regular work. Unique blends of spices are incorporated to aid palatability and intake.
