Diet Description
Stamm 30® is a highly concentrated source of essential proteins, with patented vitamins, minerals, and yeasts designed to supplement all classes of horses when additional calories (energy) are not called for. It can be fed alone to fast growing foals to control body weight and growth rates, and to yearlings out at grass that maintain good body condition. It is suitable for supplementing gestating mares out at grass post-weaning from the middle of their second trimester (week 20 of their pregnancy onwards) through to their last trimester of pregnancy. Barren mares can also benefit from this maintenance diet. Because of its ingredients, Stamm 30® produces a low- glycemic response after digestion.
The product is manufactured in an 'easy-to-use' pellet, for increased digestibility and uniform dispersion when mixed with other feedstuffs. It is incorporated into Level-Grow® Mix, Level-Grow® Pencils, Mare-Care, Prep 14® and the Stallion Plan diets, Covering Mix and Off-Season Mix, for nutrient continuity within the stud range. It can be used to 'top-dress' Level-Grow®, Prep 14®, Mare-Care and the Stallion Plan diets when feed intakes are low (less than 3.6 kg or 8 lbs per day).
Stamm 30® can easily be used in conjunction with any type of feeding programme or management situation:
> It can be fed alone to mature horses being maintained on all-forage diets, and to young growing horses, which are experiencing developmental orthopaedic disease (physitis, contracted tendons, osteochondrosis) as a low-calorie source of protein, vitamins and minerals
> It can be added to mixes or pelleted rations when extra nutritional fortification is required
> It can be fed with oats, or other unfortified grain, to provide the correct balance of nutrients
Stamm 30 utilizes proteinated trace minerals (copper, zinc, manganese) to increase the bioavailability of these critical elements needed for correct skeletal development and maintenance of the horse. A minimum of a third of the copper, zinc, and manganese are provided in a bioavailable, proteinated form, known as a bioplex. Bioplexes are inorganic minerals chemically bound to a protein in order to enhance absorption and availability, so that they prevent interference and combining with other minerals. As they are digestively recognised as a protein, they utilize uptake pathways of the different amino acids.
A specifically designed yeast culture has been incorporated for increased microbial activity. This proprietary yeast source provides extremely high levels of active Saccharomyces cerevisae, which promotes more efficient fibre digestion, and maintains favourable digestively-related bacteria counts in the hindgut. It also encourages increased absorption of significant minerals (copper, phosphorous, zinc) and enhances protein utilization.
A proprietary bioavailable form of magnesium has been added to increase muscle strength and the structural integrity of bone. Recent research at KER has shown that magnesium has traditionally been under supplemented, or fed in an unavailable form. Through digestibility trials at KER, a blend of magnesium sources has been developed for incorporation into Stamm 30®, for improved absorption rates. This inclusion increases the uptake of magnesium from 10-30% (traditional source) to 80-90% (proprietary blend). Currently, Stamm 30® is the only commercially available feed supplement that provides a bioavailable source of magnesium for horses.
Stamm 30® also has an inclusion of E-max Ester, a natural form of vitamin E that is transported quickly and retained in tissues approximately twice as long as synthetic forms. Current research in several species, including horses, shows that natural vitamin E is two to three times more potent than synthetic. The most common source of vitamin E used in horse feeds is synthetic. As increased demands are placed on horses during the breeding season, mares, stallions and youngstock can all benefit from the incorporation of natural vitamin E in this product.
