SARA & PHILLIPA HOWE - highs and low of 2008
“Its been an exciting year for all of us, with many highlights and a few disappointments along the way, here are just a few of them! Perhaps the most exciting was our clever pony Priceless finishing the season with Phillipa beholders of the impressive title of Supreme Champion 2008. Philipa hasn’t done a huge amount of driving events, as she has been having lots of fun in the saddle, riding both Priceless and her other horse Noble in Pony Club ODE. However, she did compete at Bordehill this year and won the marathon and finished 2nd behind top name Anna Grayston. I drove the pony team at Indoor Events and then went to finals at Keysoe. The ponies did very well and we won the dressage. Unfortunately my trace broke in the cones and we had penalty points for a groom down and I just could not catch up but we finished a very respectable 2nd. We then went on to compete in some great outdoor club events at Cricklands, Sandringham, Bordehill and Normanshurst. The ponies were fantastic and we put up some good times in the hazards. Just getting around was an achievement!
Now we are focusing on all the indoor competitions and hoping to get to the finals again. I am concentrating hard on my dressage, however it does take such a long time to school four instead of one and feels especially long with the horrible winter weather!. I am trying to get them to go more as a team and I also need a lot of practising at my rein handling to be as quick as the ponies. 2009 is filled with ambition and we are hoping to compete outdoors at FEI shows next year- if all goes well and we can beat the credit crunch! Also Phillipa will be coming out with a brand new pony, a youngster called Rocket – so watch out for him!”
