Out Of Sadness Comes a Ray of Sunshine!
When Terri Compson’s mare died, she was left with a new born foal that had to be delivered by caesarean section. Terri took on the full time job of carer, including moving into a caravan at the yard for the first 4 months to be able to bottle feed her every two hours. Terri never gave up and with the help of Saracen Horse Feeds, she triumphed in the face of uncertainty, as she explains:
“Mini was born on 23 June 2008 by caesarian section. Her father is a 50/50 Anglo Arab Eventer with William Fox-Pitt and her mother was a warmblood with Akkord blood lines. She was bred to showjump (hopefully). She was around 11hh at birth and I think she was 61 kg and had a girth of 36 inches. She was fed frozen colostrum from another mare and was given two litres of plasma intravenously. She came home in the back of a car at 2 days old! She was bottle fed on Aintree foal milk and started eating Foal Starter at a week old. We fed her that until the end of November when we started reducing her milk and moved her on to Level Grow. Then we weaned her off the milk and after a couple of weeks fed her Stamm 30 and Chaff. She will be seven months on 23 Jan and is approximately 14.1hh”
