Saracen - New Initiatives for the Thoroughbred Industry
Saracen are making some beneficial changes to our range of specialist feeds to support the racing industry. There have been an increasing number of horses disqualified from races over the last five years due to the presence of prohibitive substances in their blood/urine, which is believed to have originated from feed. Every case is a major cause for concern for all involved, and Saracen intends to take some positive action to try and reduce these risks.
As a result, we have established a more rigorous testing regime for a core range of racing products to give added assurance and confidence to all users. These feeds will undergo heightened levels of testing frequency and bonding procedures from January onwards to minimise the risk of naturally occurring prohibitive substances being found. Consequently, we will be making some practical changes to some of the thoroughbred feeds that could previously have been used both in racing yards and on breeding farms.
There are two main changes to be aware of; firstly, there will be a specific version of Prep 14 that is only aimed at horses in training, and another version for use on the stud farm. Consequently, Racing Prep 14 will be in a different coloured bag and will be bonded and undergo the higher levels of testing at the HFL. Please note the difference in packaging between the two products as they are not interchangeable.
The second change is that the Stamm 30 pellet incorporated into the racing diets as a raw material will continue to be bonded and tested with a high frequency, but the bagged Stamm 30 balancer pellet will no longer be a bonded product suitable for racing under rules.
From January 2009, Saracen’s bonded Racing products will include:
· Recoup 11
· Race 13
· Racing Prep 14
· Re-leve
· Kentucky Balancer
