Shane Borland

Shane Borland
Name: Shane Borland
Location: Warwickshire
Occupation: Western Reining Champion
Western Reining Champion Shane Borland of Borland Quarter Horses started out his hugely successful riding career in Polocrosse before moving into the Western discipline.
He came to the UK in 1996 hoping to earn money and travel the rest of the world, but met Vix and never left. He played Polocrosse and in 1998 worked and played for Talacrest Polo team who proved to be the most successful medium goal polo team at that time.
After a year with Talacrest, Shane and Vix moved back to the Midlands and started their own business renting a yard and taking in horses for training. Shane travelled to the USA to look for a Quarter Horse stallion to breed with his Polocrosse TB and Stock horse mares. Subsequently he bought Sons Royal Chic and discovered that with his bloodlines, Chic was destined for Reining. They competed first in the Western Pleasure, not Chic's cup of tea, and then in Reining.
Due to stud commitments, Chic’s competition career grounded and Shane continued to play Polo and Polocrosse representing Great Britain at the Polocrosse World Championships in 2003 before deciding to focus solely on Western.

He has been very successful in the Western Pleasure with Seren Jolly Profit owned by Frances Payne, represented South Africa at the World Reining Masters in 2005 and excelled at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen in 2006. Shane also has a knack for starting 2 year olds.
